General Officer Commanding of the Northern Army Command Lt Gen K T Parnaik held an hour-long meeting with Vohra at Raj Bhavan and briefed him about various matters relating to security management, particularly in the context of the ongoing Amarnath yatra and certain militant incidents in the past days, an official spokesman said.

The GOC of Srinagar-based 15 Corps Lt Gen Om Prakash was also present at the meeting, he said.

Kashmir Valley witnessed a sudden spurt in militant activities over the past week which left three security jawans and five militants dead in separate incidents.

Earlier, Director General Border Roads Organisation Lt Gen S Ravishankar called on Vohra and briefed him about the status of construction and maintenance of various road projects being executed by the organisation to provide connectivity to remote areas in the state.

The Governor stressed the vital importance of the various road building projects being completed within the envisaged time frame as delays not only caused enormous problems for the inhabitants of the unconnected areas but also thwarted the rapid development of isolated regions, the spokesman said.

The Governor and Lt Gen Ravishankar also discussed issues relating to improvement of traffic flows on roads leading to the entry points of the two routes to the Amarnath Yatra, the spokesman said.
