A senior assistant in the Cachar District Election office was caught by the state Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting a bribe from a man for clearing his pending bills, police said Thursday.
Atoshi Tapadar was caught by the ACB team led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police when she was accepting the bribe amount in her office at Silchar while accepting Rs 30,000 as bribe from the owner of a printing company, an Assam Police press release said.
The bribe money has been seized from the possession of the accused public servant and she has been arrested, the release said.
The accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 95,000 for receiving of bill payment amount of Rs 1,17,500 by the complainant for the printing of forms, it said, adding, the complainant was asked to pay Rs 30,000 out of the total bribe amount.
The complainant had approached the ACB Police Station in the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam and a team of officers was dispatched from Guwahati to Silchar for laying a trap as per standard operations.
During search of Tapadar's belongings an amount of approximately Rs three lakh was recovered and seized by the ACB team, the release added.
