Nearly 250 senior citizens from the district's Kalyan town who have been associated with Shiv Sena since its formation were honoured at a function here.

The elders, who were 60 years of age and above, were given shawl and 'srifal' at the function last night, besides a trophy bearing the picture of Sena supremo late Bal Thackeray.

The party's Kalyan city unit president Vishnu Bhoir said as the Sena was in its 50th year of formation, it was the apt occasion to honour and recognise the contribution of these elders towards the party.

Among those honoured were 13 women and nearly 17 persons who were with the Sena since 1967.

Party's district chief Prakash Patil and local leader Gopal Landge presided over the function which was attended by thousands of Shiv Sainiks at the Geeta Hall in Shivaji Chowk.
