Senior CPI-ML (Liberation) leader Swapan Mukherjee cremated

Senior CPI-ML (Liberation) leader Swapan Mukherjee, who passed away yesterday following heart attack, was cremated at Nigambodh Ghat here today.

The cremation took place at electric crematorium of the Ghat.

Earlier in the day, Left leaders including ex-CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, CPI-ML (Liberation) general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya, party leader Kavita Krishnan, CPI national secretary Amarjeet Kaur and several trade union leaders paid homage to Mukherjee.

63-year old Mukherjee, who played a major role in organising the party and its major campaigns, had died yesterday following heart attack at a party colleague's residence in Chandigarh where he had gone for a meeting.
 

Mukherjee is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
