A senior leader of the banned Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was arrested from Williamnagar in East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, police said today.

GNLA Secretary Dalbin N Marak, alias Ammika, was arrested when he had gone to meet his close aid in the area last evening.

Marak was wanted in connection with several criminal cases.

The arrest came four weeks after five policemen were killed by GNLA militants in an ambush at Kolapara village in South Garo Hills earlier this month.
