Senior insurance firm official gets 3 yrs RI for bribe taking

A Divisional Manager of National Insurance Company Limited was today sentenced to three years rigorous imprisonment by a CBI court in Coimbatore for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a surveyor for releasing payment to him.

II Additional District Judge for CBI cases Joseph David also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on C Soosaipandi, who had demanded the bribe in November 2011 for clearing a cheque for Rs.9,617 towards charges for a survey conducted by the surveyor and for allotting further survey works.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau of the CBI in Chennai had registered a case against Soosaipandi based on the complaint of insurance surveyor R Balasubramani.
 

A trap was laid and the Divisional Manager caught red handed while accepting the bribe amount on November 3, 2011 and arrested, a CBI release said here.

CBI had filed the chargesheet against Soosaipandi under different sections of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 before the CBI Special Court which found him guilty of the charges.
