"Dr Muneer Masoodi has been appointed as Medical Superintendent to take care of administration rather than being a spokesman of the ministry of Medical Education," CPI(M) MLA M Y Tarigami and PDF MLA Hakim Mohammad Yasin said in a joint statement.
Masoodi had tried to justify the high infant mortality rate at the only pediatrics hospital of the Valley saying many cases referred to the hospital had little chances of survival.
Terming Masoodi's statement as a move to neutralise the burning issue of infant deaths, Tarigami and Yasin said his statement is a justification for the ever-increasing infant mortality rate in the hospital.
"Even a common man knows about the mess in the G B Panth hospital which has mainly contributed to the increasing number of deaths of infants but medical superintendent has tried to become more loyal than the king," they said.
The two leaders advised Masoodi not to trespass his mandate and leave the justifications and clarifications to the state government, which is yet to receive a report from inquiry committee headed by SKIMS director Dr Showkat Zargar.
