Deepak Sharma (55) was killed last night using a sharp-edged weapon at his residence on the institute campus, SP (City) Sameer Saurabh said, adding that the scene of crime indicates that the assailants were known to the scientist.

According to the housemaid, at around 9 pm the assailants reached Sharma's house and entered into a room with him. Two others who remained at the door locked the scientist's mother and the maid in the bathroom, the SP said.
