Sharma, an Assistant Editor with Hindustan Times and Malhotra, Senior Assistant Editor, Business Today, were chosen for the award, instituted by healthcare charity DM Foundation, which carries a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh.

Sharma won the award for a story on street children that "showcases how capacity-building among the youth can have a long-term impact" while Malhotra received it for a report on child labour, the organisation said in a press release.
