60-year-old Bhargava was admitted to the SGPGI about a week ago after he complained of uneasiness, Congress sources said. He breathed his last this morning.
Bhargava is survived by his wife.
After being elected from Biswan assembly seat in Sitapur in 1980, Bhargava had held various posts in the party organisation and was presently the chief spokesman of the state unit.
His body was brought to the UPCC headquarters where wreaths were laid by Congress leaders also on behalf of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and general secretary Rahul Gandhi among others.
Bhargava's last rites were performed at the Bhaisakund ghat in the evening.
