The first trading session of Samvat 2071 concluded on a positive note today with the BSE Sensex rising over 63 points and the NSE Nifty regaining the 8,000-mark, extending gains for the fifth straight session.
The Sensex, which had surged 787.89 points in the past four sessions, gathered another 63.82 points, or 0.23 per cent, to close at 26,851.05. The gauge hit session's high of 26,930.23 in the opening trade on sustained capital inflows, amid renewed optimism after announcement of reforms in oil and gas coal sectors.
The Sensex gained 5,590.42 points, or 26.37 per cent, in the entire Samvat 2070.

The rally in the Muhurat session was led by stocks of oil and gas, consumer durables, capital goods, healthcare, FMCG, PSUs, realty, metal and banking.
Early gains were trimmed as some investors booked profits to open their books with gains on the first special Muhurat session of Hindu Samvat 2071 year, said brokers.
Investors and funds were seen in a cheerful mood and picked front-runner shares as well as midcap and smallcap stocks to mark the beginning of their new accounts, they added.
Stock markets will remain closed tomorrow on account of 'Diwali Balipratipada' and resume regular trading on Monday (October 27).
