Sensex crashes most in seven years; 4th biggest in history

Today's fall is biggest since October 24, 2008

As stock markets witnessed bloodbath today, the Sensex recorded an intra-day fall of 1,153.16 points till noon -- making it the biggest crash in about seven years and the fourth biggest ever for the BSE benchmark index.

Interestingly, eight out of the top-ten intra-day falls took place in the year 2008. Today's fall is biggest since October 24, 2008.

The market expected to remain volatile in the near future as traders roll over their positions in the futures & options (F&O) segment from the near month August series to September. The near month derivatives is set to expire on Thursday.
 

Globally, Asian markets were deep in the red on worries over weakness in Chinese economy after a private survey on Friday showed that nations factory output fell to multi-year lows.
