Sensex gains 48 points in early trade during special session

The BSE 30-share index, Sensex, resumed higher at 17,701.07 and hovered in a narrow range of 17,735.99 and 17,694.83 before quoting at 17,732.06 at 1130 hrs, a net gain of 48.33 points, or 0.27 per cent, from its last close.

The NSE 50-share Nifty also moved up by 9.85 points, or 0.18 per cent, to 5,351.95 at 1130 hrs.

Major gainers were Cipla (1.98 pct), Sterlite Inds (1.14 pct), Jindal Steel (1.04 pct) and Tata Power (0.83 pct).

However, Bhel fell by (1.66 pct) and Bharti Airtel moved down by (0.68 pct).

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) bought shares worth Rs 502.17 crore yesterday, as per provisional data from the stock exchanges.

 

Both the stock exchanges, BSE and NSE, are holding a one-and-half hours special trading session from 1115 hrs to 1245 hrs as the BSE is testing its disaster recovery site.
