An agitation for carving out separate Sangamner district from Ahmednagar district today withdrew its agitation on the appeal made by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
The Sangamner District Action Committee (SDAC) has been spearheading a campaign to create a separate district, since the last 45 days.
Fadanvis today called the SDAC for a discussion at Sahyadri Guest House, where the committee announced its decision to call off the stir, a government release stated.
The chief minister said the government has appointed a committee for the creation of the new district which is currently studying the data received from geographical and demographic angles.
"Proper decision on bifurcation of the district will be taken after receiving the report of the committee on special places, geography, and population, administrative facilities etc," Fadnavis said.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil was prominent among those who were present.
