Separatist groups today called for a complete shutdown in Kashmir on Saturday to protest against a Supreme Court decision to stay the FIR against army personnel, including a Major, in the Shopian firing incident that left three dead and several injured.

The Joint Resistance Leadership, comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, issued a statement criticising the apex court for restraining the Jammu and Kashmir Police from taking any coercive steps against Army officers accused in the Shopian firing case.

Father of Major Aditya, the officer named in the FIR related to the killing of three civilians in Army firing on January 27, had approached the Supreme Court seeking the FIR be quashed.

The apex court had on Monday asked the state government to file a response within two weeks.
