Separatists call for shutdown to protest civilian killings

Separatists in Kashmir today called for a Valley-wide shutdown tomorrow to protest the killing of civilians near an encounter site in Pulwama district where two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants were killed.

"We call for a complete shutdown tomorrow against the killing of Firdous Ahmad and injuries to 40 others in forces' action on protestors in Pulwama," separatist leaders Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik said in a joint statement here.

Meanwhile, the authorities have decided to shut all educational institutions in the Valley tomorrow as a precautionary measure.
