A septuagenarian man here allegedly killed his 40-year-old son, who was convicted in a murder case, police said Thursday.

The incident took place in Alankar Nagar locality in the city on Wednesday night, police said.

The accused, Damodar Balapure (71), who surrendered before the police Thursday morning, told them that he and his wife were fed up of the constant harassment by his son Sanjay, an official of Hudkeshwar police station said.

Sanjay was convicted in a murder case and released from jail. However, it was not clear whether he was out on parole or his jail term had ended.

"Sanjay was harassing his parents for money. On Wednesday night, he threatened his mother that if she fails to bring Rs 25,000 from her brother, he would kill her and his father," the official said.

Fearing for his life, his father hit Sanjay on his head with an iron rod, in which he died, he added.

Balapure then surrendered before the police this morning and a case of murder was registered against him, the official said.
