Sequel on cult novel 'Shantaram' now out

Over a decade after "Shantaram", a novel which vividly portrayed the tumultuous life of Mumbai and went on to have a cult following, a sequel has hit bookstores.

In the long-awaited new fiction, "The Mountain Shadow", author Gregory David Roberts picks up on the story two years after "Shantaram" ended.

While the earlier novel revolves around the story of Lin, an escaped Australian convict who flees to Mumbai and works as a passport forger for a mafia gang there.

Two years after the events in "Shantaram," Mumbai is a different world, playing by different rules. Lin's search for love and faith leads him through secret and violent intrigues to a dangerous truth.
 

According to publishers Hachette India the "extraordinary sequel is the result of ten years of work by Roberts.
