South Eastern Railway (SER) has surpassed the Railway Board's freight loading target for the first quarter of 2016-17 by loading 2.64 per cent more than the set target.
During the first quarter (April to June) of the current financial year (2016-17), SER has loaded 36.48 million tonnes of freight as against 33.17 million tonnes loaded during the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 9.98 per cent.
Loading of Iron Ore was to the tune of 21.33 million tones, which witnessed a growth of 17.39 per cent compared to the same period of last year, according to a SER press release here today.

The other major components of SER's loading were Coal, raw materials to steel plants, Pig Iron and Finished Steel, Cement, Food Grains, Fertilisers, POL etc.
As a result of this loading performance, SER has generated freight earnings of Rs 2,709.27 crore during April-June of the current fiscal, which is Rs 29.70 crore more than the corresponding period of last year, registering a growth of 1.11 per cent, the release added.
