Seven arrested for online cricket betting

Seven people were arrested for allegedly involving in online cricket betting during the second India vs Australia match, the police said today.

Yesterday, the police came to know about some men who were allegedly betting on the match. A raid was conducted at a house in A-Block where the accused were stationed.

The accused were identified as Sumit Malhotra (30), Ashprit Singh (25), Anubhav Anand (22), Sumit Singh Sachdeva (22), Satnam Singh (38), Sachin Sehgal (36) and Gagandeep (31), said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.

Police seized Rs 27,570, 12 mobile phones, three laptops, etc, he said.
 

An amount of Rs 1,95,535 was on stake till the time the raid was conducted, Dumbere said.

The amount won by the people used to get disbursed the next day with the help of their associates, the officer said.

The accused were accepting bets online as well as through mobile phones that had a recording facility.

Malhotra, Ashprit and Satnam had also installed an online betting software named 'Betting Assistance' on their laptops which showed rates, timings and preferences of people participating in the betting, the DCP said.
