Seven booked for siphoning money from widow pension funds

Seven persons, including two former district probation officers, have been booked for alleged misappropriation of funds meant for Widow Pension Scheme in the district.

Former DPOs Karikant Sharma and Mohan Lal Sahu, clerk Mehboob Ali, and four others were booked yesterday for alleged misappropriation of Rs 17.30 lakh from Widow Pension Scheme, Deputy Collector Gyanprakash said.

They have been booked under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 409 (breach of trust by public servant), 467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using forged documents as genuine), he said.

Last week, ten persons, including a former DPO and Branch Manager of a nationalized bank were booked in another case of alleged misappropriation of funds meant for the same scheme.
 

Clerk Ali is already under suspension for his alleged involvement in another case of graft of over Rs 50,000 from the same scheme.
