The Anti-Robbery Cell of the Thane police has arrested seven persons, including five from Ajmer in Rajasthan, in connection with several incidents of chain-snatching in the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dr D S Swami said a total of 17 cases of chain snatching were solved by the team comprising personnel from the Anti-Robbery Cell and Kalwa police station.
The police managed to recover 407 grams of jewellery worth Rs 8.27 lakh during the operation.

Three of the seven arrested persons are also facing cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
All 17 incidents had been reported from Kalwa, Naupada, Shil Daighar and Rabodi areas here.
Police had received a tip-off that some persons belonging to the Irani gang involved in chain-snatchings were hiding in Ajmer.
Sarfaraz Firoz Baig alias Sayyed (40), the main accused, and four of his accomplices were picked up from a house in Ajmer.
Rizwan Ismail Shaikh and Ali alias Mamoo Syeed Shaikh were arrested by Kalwa police here.
