Seven children sustained burn injuries, three of them critically, in an accidental fire in a house at a village in Deoband area here, police said today.

Khedamugal resident Dharmendra had gone out of the village with his wife for her treatment and had asked his neighbour's 14-year-old daughter to stay in his house in the night with his six children, a senior police official said.

During the night, a candle accidentally fell on a quilt which caught fire that quickly spread leaving all seven injured, Superintendent of Polic (Rural) Jagdish Sharma said.

Seeing the fire, people from the neighbourhood gathered and the children, all aged between 2-14 years, were rescued and sent for medical treatment, the SP said.

Three seriously injured children have been admitted to the district hospital, while the rest were discharged after first-aid, Sharma said.
