Seven Indians qualify for main draw

Joleta Budiman of Indonesia was the lone foreigner along with seven Indians to qualify for the main draw in the Asian juniors tennis championship here today.

In the boys event, Rishabh Sharda, Abhimanyu Vannemreddy, Aditya Vashisht and M Senthilkumar made it to the main draw which gets underway tomorrow.

In the girls section, Shivani Amineni, Harsha Sai Challa and Humera Begum Shaikh were the Indian girls to qualify apart from the Indonesian Joleta.

Siddanth Bantia and Kaivalya Kalamse, both from Maharashtra, were awarded the wild card for the boys event along with Shivani Ingle and Jitisha Shastri, also from the host state, in the girls event.

Boys: Rishabh Sharda (Ind) bt Megh bhargav Patel (Ind) 6-3, 2-6, 6-1; Abhimanyu Vannemreddy (Ind) bt HO Denton (HKG) 6-3, 6-2; Aditya Vashisht (Ind) bt Ryuki Matsuda (JPN) 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-1; M Senthilkumar (Ind) bt Mohan Devanand (Ind) 6-2, 6-2;

Girls:

Shivani Amineni (Ind) bt Vaidehi Chaudhari (Ind) 6-2, 6-4; Joleta Budiman (Ind) bt S Chilakalapudi (Ind) 6-4, 6-2; Harsha Sai Challa (Ind) bt Shivani Manjanna (Ind) 7-5, 6-3; Humera Begum Shaikh (Ind) bt Lasya Patnaik (Ind) 6-4, 6-2.
