A woman lost her right hand and six others were injured when the vehicle in which they were travelling was hit by a goods vehicle from the opposite side at Sovabazar in the central part of the city this morning, the police said.
The accident occured when members of a family were returning from the Nimtala burning ghat after performing the last rites of a relative.
Six others were undergoing treatment at the RG Kar Hospital. The doctors amputated the right hand of one woman who was badly injured, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
The driver of the vehicle fled from the spot.
