Seven Keralites held for smuggling red sanders

Seven persons from Kerala have been arrested in connection with the smuggling of red sanders from Manipal in neighbouring Udupi district.

The seven, who were held yesterday, have been identified as

Saif (32) Nadim Sunil (23), Nisar B (36), Amin A (23), Niyaz (23), Aymen (26) and Shahjahan (32), all from Kerala, police said.

A total of 575 kg of red sanders, valued at Rs 28 lakh, were seized from three vehicles by a police team. The vehicles and eight mobile phones were also seized.

The vehicles were proceeding to Manipal from Kerala, police said.
