Seven persons were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between an army vehicle and a civilian cab on the Srinagar-Baramulla road in the outskirts of the city today, triggering protests by locals.
The collision took place between a recovery crane of the army and the cab, which was on its way to Baramulla district, at Shalteng, resulting in on-the-spot death of three cab passengers and injuries to six others, a police spokesman said.
He said the injured were rushed to hospital, where four of them including a pregnant woman died.

Security forces in the area used batons and fired tear smoke shells to chase away the protesters, the spokesman said, adding that the army vehicle has been seized and the driver arrested.
A case has been registered and investigation started, the spokesman said.
