At least seven people, two women and five children, were killed and 18 others injured today when a van plunged off a bridge after its driver fell asleep near Abbottabad, in northwest Pakistan.

The victims were the residents of Tarhana Malkan village, Abbottabad, who went to Islamabad airport to see off their relatives.

Police said that the incident took place on the way back to Abbottabad when the van fell off the bridge after the driver fell asleep.

The van got out of control and fell off the bridge, Geo News reported

The injured were shifted to the hospitals in Haripur and Abbottabad. Condition of two persons was critical, the report said.

The accident came a day after the tragic incident in which 16 children and a teacher were charred to death in Pakistan's Punjab province when a leaking gas cylinder triggered a fire in the bus taking them to school.
