Seven killed, one injured as jeep collides with truck

Seven people were killed and one person was seriously injured when their jeep collided with a truck on Indore-Kota highway near Susner, police said today.

The truck carrying buffaloes hit the jeep coming from Agar in Shajapur near Susner last evening.

Later, police, with the help of local people, extricated the passengers from the mangled jeep and sent them to a local community health centre where seven of them succumbed to their injuries while one seriously injured person was referred to Ujjain for further treatment.

The deceased were identified as - Kailash, Gopal, Gokul, Manohar, Shyam Lal, Bhagirath and Shiv Narayan Mali, (the age of the deceased was not yet clear) police said.
 

The ill-fated passengers were from Gagorni and Karanpura villages of the district.

The state government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 25,000 to a lone injured.

The truck driver fled from the scene after the accident.

Police have registered a case in this regard and further investigations are on.
