Seven of family get life imprisonment for murdering neighbour

A fast track court in the district has awarded life imprisonment to seven members of a family, including three women, for killing their neighbour in 2012 on suspicion of being a police informer.

The Fast Track Court Judge A K Sahu found Tiharu Jangde (39), his brothers Chandrbhanu (45) and Surajbhanu (42) and their wives Laxmi (34), Dhaneshwari (42), and Budhiyarin (39), respectively, and his uncle Jethuram (66) guilty and awarded them life sentence, Additional Public Prosecutor Rajkumar Upadhyay said today.

The court in its verdict delivered yesterday also imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 on each of the convicts, he said.
 

According to Upadhyay, Tiharu along with his family members lynched his neighbour Lala Ram to death with sticks and axe in Telipali village under Pusaur police station limits on December 19, 2012.

A senior police official said excise department raided Tiharu's house on December 13, 2012 following complaints against him for being illegally involved in preparing and selling liquor in the village.

Tiharu was suspecting that Lala Ram intimated the police.
