Seven pilgrims crushed to death by container truck in UP

Seven pilgrims were crushed to death and as many injured by a container truck in Faizabad district, police said here today.

"The incident occurred post-midnight in Ayodhya when the pilgrims were sleeping alongside the road after returning from their visit to the 'Sawan mela'," a police spokesperson said.

The deceased have been identified as Shlok Kumari (42), Parmu Tiwari (45), Gudiya Pandey (30), Leela (48), Kishori Mishra and Umashanker alias Babban (40). The police is yet to ascertain the identity of one more deceased.

"The injured were admitted to the nearby district hospital. Two of them, Alok Pandey and Aniruddh have been referred to trauma centre in Lucknow," police said.
 

"The driver managed to flee from the spot with his container truck. Investigation in the case is on," they said.
