Seven ration office employees arrested for accepting a bribe

Seven people including six employees of a rationing office in suburban Govandi were arrested today for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500 from a complainant to make changes in a ration card, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) sources said here today.

According to the police, the complainant approached Govandi rationing office seeking changes in his ration card for which one of the employees allegedly sought Rs 2,500.

The complainant approached the ACB yesterday, after which ACB sleuths laid a trap at the rationing office in Govandi today.

"A mediator Asha Sonawane accepted Rs 2,500 in cash from the complainant and gave it to six ration office employees namely Shamu Dhotre, Sujata Sawant, Pradeep Patil, Laxmi Dhage, Prashant and Aniruth Kulkarni," an ACB officer said.
 

"All seven have been arrested for accepting the bribe," the officer said.
