Seven miners were killed in an accident at a colliery in southwest China's Guizhou Province.

The coal and gas burst happened yesterday when 50 miners were working at the Huangshuiba Coal Mine in Yumo Township of Jinsha County, local officials said.

Forty-five workers were lifted out. Two of them died after emergency treatment failed, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

Rescuers later found five bodies underground.
