Seven-year jail for 28-year old man for raping minor girl

A court here has sentenced a 28-year-old man to seven years of imprisonment for sexually assaulting a minor girl, his neigbour, in Sullia near here in 2013.

Mohammed Ashraf was convicted by Additional District and Sessions Court II Judge Sarvodaya Shettigar, also the Special Judge for cases under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and handed out the sentenced under Section 4 of the Act and under Section 376 (rape) of Indian Penal Code on August 26.

Sullia police had arrested Ashraf on a complaint by the 16-year-old girl.

The girl had told the police that she had been sexually assaulted by him when she went to meet his sister.
 

The judge also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 30,000 which would go to the victim.
