Several areas in city face outages upto two hours

As the mercury went three notches above normal to climb to 42.6 degrees Celsius, the power demand shot up to 4477 MW. The maximum power demand this season was recorded yesterday when it touched 4633 MW.

"There was no power in our locality for two hours," said a resident of Janakpuri in West Delhi.

Delhi's peak power demand had reached an all-time high of 5,028 MW in August last year. As per projection of the power department, the maximum demand is likely to touch around 5,200 MW this year.

An official of BSES Yamuna Power Limited said the power demand in the discom's area of operation in May surpassed all previous records.

 

"Yesterday, the power demand in BYPL area touched an all time high of 1,237 MW, surpassing previous highest demand of 1195 MW recorded in August 2011," said the official.
