Several leaders of the state women Congress unit today joined TMC, accusing the WBPCC leadership of not giving importance to women in the party.

Kabita Rahman, the ex-President of Women's wing of Congress along with various other women leaders of the state Congress today switched over to TMC.

"In Congress we are not allowed to work. We neither have any respect nor importance in the party. The state Congress hardly gives any importance to women in the party. We decided to join TMC to become part of Didi's (Mamata Banerjee) development agenda," Rahman said.

Another woman Congress leader said it was a matter of shame that despite a woman being the President of the party (Sonia Gandhi) there is no importance of women in the West Bengal unit of Congress.

Senior TMC leader and former West Bengal minister Chandrima Bhattacharya was present at the occasion and handed over the flags to Rahman and her associates.

In last one month several Congress and Left leaders have joined TMC.

Although the opposition had accused TMC of poaching on its leaders and workers by the tactics of intimidation and money power, the ruling party claimed that they are joining the party on their own and wished to become part of Mamata Banerjee's development process in Bengal.
