Press Trust of India New Delhi

Several birds were killed in a devastating storm in Agra on Wednesday night which uprooted trees and affected human lives, non-profit organisation Widlife SOS said in a statement.

"The wildlife conservation NGO has attended to a multitude of distress calls about birds such as peacocks, parakeets, kites and pigeons in the past 72 hours and has deployed their rescue units across Agra. Of the most affected were peacocks that were knocked down from trees only to be attacked by dogs. Many had sustained severe bite wounds and unfortunately some succumbed to the injuries despite all efforts to treat them," it said.

The organisation's co-founder Kartick Satyanarayan said, While our team has attended to all calls that they come across, the storm has claimed more lives than could have been rescued.
