Several injured as police lathicharge ABVP protesters

Police fired several rounds in air and lathicharged protesting ABVP workers who tried to reach state Assembly to protest deterioration in education system in the state.

Several persons have been injured in the lathicharge and stone pelting between protesters and policemen at R-block,near the Assembly, police said.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Upendra Kumar Sinha and Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana have reached the spot with additional police force to control the situation, they said.

The DIG told PTI its difficult to count the injured due to commotion.

The ABVP workers were taking out "Vidhan sabha march" from Gandhi Maidan to Assembly to protest deterioration of education system in Bihar.

Policemen and eyewitnesses said that police had to open fire in air when ABVP protesters scaled iron gates at R-block and broke barricade to march towards Assembly as part of their agitation.

One protester fainted during police action.

A strong contingent of policemen have been deployed to stop protesters from reaching Assembly building.

Earlier, BJP members created ruckus in support of adjournment notice given by four BJP members in Legislative Assembly to protest deterioration in education system in Bihar.

Leader of Opposition in Assembly Nand Kishore Yadav demanded the Speaker to take up the issue first and when the Chair did not oblige the BJP members trooped into well and shouted anti-government slogans.

With situation refusing to improve, Speaker Uday Narayan Choudhary adjourned the house till 2 PM.

BJP members created pandemonium in Legislative Council too on the same issue forcing adjournment of the Council till 2:30 PM.
