Ahead of the rollout of Goods and Services Tax (GST), several ports including JNPT, have stopped clearing consignments which is creating hardships for exporters and importers, FIEO today said.
The ports, according to the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), have stopped clearances as they are aligning their systems with the new indirect tax regime, which will be rolled out from July 1.
"Several ports, including JNPT, have stopped clearances of consignments due to GST transition. The work is expected to resume soon," FIEO Director General Ajay Sahai said.
An official said that the closure of approvals are legitimate as they have to prepare their systems for GST.
