Blistering heat wave conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana today with mercury rising by several notches above normal in most parts of both the states.
Mercury shot up in both states, touching the 45 degree Celsius mark in many cities.
Hisar in Haryana was the hottest place in the region as it sizzled at 46 degree Celsius, Met department said here today.

Among other places in Haryana, Ambala and Narnaul recorded maximum of 44.4 degree Celsius and 43 degree Celsius, which was four notches above normal.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded maximum 45.6 degree Celsius, up by five notches above normal, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a high of 45.4 degree Celsius and 44.8 degree Celsius, up by four notches above normal.
Union Territory Chandigarh recorded maximum of 43.8 degree Celsius, up by five notches above normal.
A Met forecast said weather will remain mainly dry in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.
