Shiromani Gurudwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC) today gave a cheque of Rs ten lakh each to the next of kin of two persons killed in alleged police firing at Behbal Kalan on October 14 during a protest against an incident of sacrilege at Bargari village here.

Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) Mantar Singh Brar accompanied with four SGPC members visited the families of victims to hand over the cheques.

Two persons - Krishan Singh and Gurjit Singh of Nianiwala and Sarwan village respectively had died after being hit by bullets.

Brar said that the financial help was extended by SGPC to the families.

He said SGPC President Avtar Singh Makkar was also supposed to visit the victims' families, but due to some health problems, he could not come.

"It was an unfortunate incident and we have full sympathy with the families," Brar said.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had also visited the two families to express sympathies and gave them a financial assistance of Rs one lakh each recently.
