Separate Sikh Nanakshahi calendar for the year of 2015-2016 prepared by the SGPC has been released today by five Sikh head priests led by Jathedar Akal Takht Gyani Gurbachan Singh here.

However, Singh said the calendar is temporary and that the final calendar will be prepared from next year with certain rules and amendments.

On March 9, five Sikh head priests after a marathon meeting announced formation of panel to solve long pending separate Sikh Nanakshahi Calendar row.

Jathedar Akal Takht, head of highest Sikh temporal seat, said that panel was to sort out various issues as raised by numerous Sikh scholars and Sikh intellectuals to bring certain amendments.

He said that panel would eradicate all kind of confusions and doubts with regard to calendar by suggesting certain amendments.

He said that panel would submit its report by December 2015 and meanwhile SGPC would continue to publish calendar as per its own way keeping in view the Sikh traditions and sentiments of the community.

The Jathedar said there shouldn't be clash of any Sikh religious occasion as two occasions shouldn't be on the same day besides certain other issues.

Jathedar said that after the submission of final report by the panel a fresh Sikh calendar would be issued in 2016.

In the past few years, various amendments were brought in the Nanakshahi calendar which had created confusion among various Sikh outfits due to clash of dates of Sikh religious occasions.

Meanwhile, radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa today alleged that the SGPC has printed and released the new-year calendar as per "Bikrami era" and "buried" the Nanakshahi calendar.
