The decision was taken during a meeting of SGPC's Executive Committee at Anandpur Sahib today, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said.

The memorial will be raised at Gurdwara Tharra Sahib in front of Akal Takht Sahib at Amritsar. The construction work of the memorial had been entrusted to Damadami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Khalsa.

Makkar said that it was a long-standing demand of the Sikh organisations and Sikhs to raise memorial for the victims of the Operation Bluestar and various sub-committees comprising Sikh scholars were constituted by the SGPC for the purpose.

The buildings damaged during the Army action in Harmandar Sahib complex and the holy Bir of Guru Granth Sahib and other material which were hit by bullets will also be preserved, he said. PTI CORR
