Taking time off his packed schedule during his two-day visit here, BJP chief Amit Shah today had lunch at a Dalit's home.

Accompanied by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and several senior BJP leaders, Shah arrived at Munne Singh's home close to the party's state headquarters on Balbir Road.

The BJP chief and his party colleagues sat on a 'dhurrie' as Singh's wife Saroj and their three daughters served lunch, which included rotis, puris, two vegetable preparations, salad, chutney and kheer.

After the lunch, Shah also got himself photographed with Singh's children and gave them his blessings.

Having spent about half-an-hour with Singh's family, the BJP president left to attend other programmes.

Local MLA Khajan Das expressed happiness that the BJP chief had lunch at the residence of a Dalit family in his constituency.

Delighted by the BJP chief's visit to his home, Singh, a washerman, said he felt proud that someone of Shah's stature had accepted his hospitality.
