As part of his plan to open a party office in each district of the country, BJP chief Amit Shah today laid the foundation stone for the first of those in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur, the seat party stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee had contested in his maiden Lok Sabha polls in 1957.

Soon after Shah was reelected BJP president in January, all state units were asked to begin the exercise for establishing a party office in every district.

The party has named the Balrampur office 'Atal Bhawan'.

District offices of the party which will have a similar architecture and common facilities like e-library and video conferencing will help the saffron outfit expand its base and hold events at the grassroots level.

There are over 660 districts in the country and party sources said they plan to have an office in each.

"We can hold training camps at the local level, connect district office-bearers and workers at the central level using technology and coordinate our efforts for better results," a party office-bearer said.
