Flamboyant Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor today married Mira Rajput, 13 years younger to him, in a traditional Punjabi wedding attended by close family and friends at a farm house on the outskirts of the national capital.

Unlike many of his contemporaries in the film industry, Shahid, 34, son of veteran actor Pankaj Kapur and ex-wife Neelima Azeem, opted for an arranged marriage with 21-year-old Mira, who did her English (Honours) this year from Delhi University's Lady Shri Ram College.

Both the families are ardent believers of Radha Soami sect, which follows teachings of all religions.

For the wedding ceremony the "Haider" star donned a Kunal Rawal-designed white kurta-pyjama and a colourful safa (turban) while Mira wore a green and pink salwar-kurta with a heavily embellished dupatta wrapped around her head. She teamed it up with a statement maang tikka on her forehead and minimal make-up.

The wedding was attended by 40 guests including Shahid's step-mother Supriya Pathak, step-siblings Ruhan, Sana and Ishan, Kunal and designer Masaba Gupta.

Later, the newly-wed couple arrived hand-in-hand at a five-star hotel after their wedding and happily posed for the shutterbugs, who had been waiting for nearly three hours.

Dressed in a white sherwani and churidaar, Shahid thanked the media for their wishes. "Thank you, thank you all," he said, while Mira smiled coyly.

With the dupatta over her head, Mira looked every bit of a new bride in a Anamika Khanna-designed champagne pink lehenga-choli, with jhumar and maangtika adorning her forehead and matching pink bangles.

Mumbai-based Shahid arrived in Delhi yesterday while his parents were in the city before to oversee the wedding preparations.

The pre-wedding celebrations started last evening with a sangeet ceremony, where Shahid was seen matching steps with Mira on his hit wedding song "Saj Dhaj Ke" from "Mausam", directed by his father.

The actor, who was previously in a relationship with actress Kareena Kapoor Khan for over three years and later linked to his co-stars Vidya Balan, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma and Bipasha Basu, had announced about his marriage to Mira in a Mumbai event in March this year.

Shahid kept the details of his wedding under wraps, saying it is "my personal space".

"She (Mira) is a normal girl and I am a normal guy, and we should treat it like something normal and regular. It's my personal space and I won't get into the details," he had said.

A dinner was hosted at a five-star hotel tonight. This will be followed by a reception in Mumbai on July 12.

Shahid will be next seen in Vikas Bahl's "Shaandaar" opposite Alia Bhatt and "Udta Punjab", which is produced by Vikramaditya Motwane.

Apart from his film assignments, the newly wed actor will be seen as a judge on the celebrity dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8".
