CPI today launched a scathing attack on BJP over its plan to undertake campaigns in the constituencies of opposition MPs following the wash-out of the Parliament's Monsoon session, saying it is "shameful" if a ruling party defends its tainted leaders.
The Left party said it was "amusing" to see BJP give such a call as it exposes the ruling party's belief in the "Goebbelsian tactics" of speaking lies repeatedly so that people take it to be the truth.
It also said that it was the BJP's "arrogance" which is to blame for the Monsoon session passing without transacting any legislative business.
"It is amusing to note BJP's call to its leaders, cadres and even to NDA partners to go to the people to defend corruption and the misdeeds of its ministers in the name of 'defending democracy'.
"It is unprecedented and shameful for a ruling party to openly defend tainted ministers and chief ministers and take up a campaign for that in public," CPI general secretary S Sudhakar Reddy said in a statement, who added that although Lok Sabha might have rejected an adjournment motion for a discussion on corruption, the nation would not reject it.
Party national secretary D Raja said that the Left parties will expose BJP, which he charged, "is keen to help corporates and sell the country's interests".
"When it comes to corruption, they (BJP) have multiple standards. BJP has been undermining parliamentary practice; Left forces will expose them," the MP added.
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley had yesterday said that one Union Minister and four NDA MPs will hold public meetings and events in the constituencies of the 44 Congress MPs and nine Left lawmakers to "expose" the Opposition over the wash-out of the Monsoon session.
Opposition parties had throughout the session mounted pressure on the government to remove External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in connection with the Lalit Modi row. They had also pressed for the resignations of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh chief ministers Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan over Lalitgate and Vyapam scam, respectively.
