Former JD(U) chief and MP Sharad Yadav today targeted the government for its "slow" action in recovery of dues from telecom firms as well as bank loans taken by corporate houses, saying it has not been catching the "big fish" and instead become dependent on them.
"It is a matter of great surprise and pain that the government has not been catching the big fish and rather become dependent on them. Government is slow whether it is recovery of loans of banks from big houses or recovery of crores of rupees from 6 private telecom companies," he said in a statement.
The Rajya Sabha MP also referred to an alleged scam in which over Rs 6,000 crores was transferred to different countries against false documentation by some private business houses through public sector banks in Delhi.
"Now Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has unearthed a scam of more than Rs 2,200 crores of public sector bank money remitted through hawala based on forged documentation," he said, adding the funds generated were a result of benefits claimed on the basis of "inflated export bills and in most cases non-existent imports".
"I demand that the government order an enquiry under a retired Supreme Court justice into how the balance sheets of big business houses have shown thousand times increase in turnover in the last 25 years," he said, alleging that it has harmed public sector banks.
