Sharif meets civil, military leadership amid border tension

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today chaired a high-level meeting of civil and military leadership to discuss various security issues amid tensions with India along the LoC.

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, outgoing Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Zaheerul Islam and his successor Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar attended the meeting.

According to sources, the border tension with India and ongoing Zarb-i-Azb operation in North Waziristan were on the top of the agenda.

The meeting was briefed about the situation on the eastern and western borders and military preparedness to take on any threat to the country.
 

The meeting also discussed the "unprovoked firing" by the Indian troops on the Working Boundary and the Line of Control which Pakistan says has killed its 12 citizens.

The meeting expressed satisfaction over the operation against the militants in tribal region.
