Sharing water: TN's neighbouring states may also follow Punjab

MDMK General Secretary Vaiko today criticised the stand taken by Punjab in refusing to share water with neighbouring states by violating agreement and said there was the possibility of the neighbouring states of Tamil Nadu also follow suit.

"If Punjab government refuses to share water as per the agreement, other states in the country will also follow it," Vaiko told reporters here.

It was not good for Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal to announce that he will not give waters to other states, he said.

Reacting to Supreme Court's ruling favouring Haryana on the contentious Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal issue Badal had recently asserted that "not a drop of water" will be allowed to be taken out of the state.

"There is a high possibility that Tamil Nadu state is deprived its due share of river waters and becoming desert, if Karnataka and Kerala also refuse to give water," he said.

Vaiko extended support to demonetisation stating that it has received support from the people at grassroot level.
